Traders at Weston’s Dolphin Square complex are enjoying their first year in business, with tens of thousands of customers pouring through the doors.

Nine months have passed since the long-awaited revamp of the site, and the parties behind the project will be breathing a collective sigh of relief as its occupiers report an ‘extremely positive’ start.

PizzaExpress assistant manager Archie Zabalujevs said: “We have been delighted to bring the nation’s best-loved pizza to Weston, and the response from customers has been extremely positive.

Cineworld Cinema and Gym

The leisure hub – which is home to an eight-screen Cineworld Cinema, 24-hour gym Anytime Fitness and chain restaurants like Nando’s and PizzaExpress – has proved popular with Westonians and tourists alike since it opened in the autumn.

Luda Bingo and Popular Restaurants

Eateries Loco Mexicano, Prezzo and 7Bone Burger Co and bingo café Luda also occupy units, and traders have told the Weston Mercury they have had a ‘great response’ since opening and are enjoying a strong first summer in business.

“It’s a great location, enjoyed by residents and holidaymakers alike.”

Emma Poppleton, Weston Cineworld’s general manager, said: “We’re so pleased to have opened in Weston.

“We’ve had more than 60,000 customers through our doors since opening in January and our most popular films have been Avengers: Infinity War, The Greatest Showman and Peter Rabbit.”

Nando’s Chicken

A Nando’s spokesman said: “We knew there were a lot of peri-peri fans in the area before we opened and the team at Dolphin Square have loved feeding everyone over the past nine months.

“The response since opening has been great and we look forward to celebrating our first year in October.”

Continued Regeneration of Weston super Mare

It is hoped the multi-million-pound redevelopment of the former shopping and market complex will drive the regeneration of Weston, and attract further investment to the town centre.

Simon Berry, managing director of McLaren Life which led the project, told the Weston Mercury earlier in the year he is ‘very pleased’ with how the project has come together.

He said: “Many of the operators have reported good sales from the early months of trading, which bodes well for the continued success of those operators and the others to follow.”
